COMMEMORATION OF WORLD MALARIA DAY

Deputy Minister, Hon. Harima Alima Daudi, MP, Speaking at the commemoration

The Deputy Minister of Health Halima Daud has assured Malawians of governments continued efforts in eliminating Malaria in the country.

The deputy Minister made the remarks when she presided over the Commemoration of World Malaria day in Traditional Authority Kabudula in Lilongwe district.

“Malawi Goverment is committed to sustain and further expand the existing and new World Health Organisation (WHO) recommended Malaria control and elimination intervention,one of such important intervention is to promote appropriate and consistent use of insecticide treated mosquito nets said Daud”

 

She further said through different interventions Malawi has made achievements in the fight against Malaria one of which is the reduction in Malaria prevalence by 56% from 24% in 2017 to 10% in 2021.

The deputy Minister then appealed to Malawians to take responsibility in the fight against Malaria by following the preventive measures consistently.

In her remarks the WHO country representative Dr.Kimambo Neema Rusibamayila said there is need to increase funding for Malaria interventions through primary health care approaches so that Malaria services are accessed by vulnerable population.

WHO Pleged continued support both technical and finacial to Malawi in the fight against Malaria.

This year’s World Malaria day is being commemorated under the theme : Time to deliver zero Malaria; invest,innovate,implement”.
