PAM engineer’s work at the dialysis centre is to ensure that all systems are running properly, these systems include the water treatment system as well as the dialysis machine. In water treatment system, PAM staff are responsible for carrying out loop sterilisation, a scheduled activity where the loop supplying water to dialysis machines, is cleaned and disinfected by means of running through a reagent cleansing chemical through the RO system to the loop.
PAM is also responsible for trouble shooting and providing both preventive and corrective maintenance of the water treatment system as well as dialysis machines to some aspects. The main duty of maintenance or servicing of dialysis machines is done by Engineers from a South African based company called Fresenius. PAM therefore supervises maintenance activities done by this service provider.
