Commemoration of World's Fitsula Day

The Deputy Minister of Health Hon Halima Daud MP, on Friday led the nation in commemorating World Fistula Day and launched the National Obstetric fistula Strategy 2023-2030 at Kasakala school ground in Ntchisi.

Among other things the strategy will guide implementation of interventions towards management and control of obstetric fistula with an aim of preventing and ending fistula in Malawi by the year 2030.

The Hon Deputy Minister reaffirmed government’s commitment in supporting obstetric fistula programs management and rehabilitation to be part of the policies and strategic interventions for sustainability.

In Malawi, the magnitude of obstetric fistula is huge as most vulnerable groups are adolescent girls and young women especially when they become pregnant at an early age.

This year’s commemoration focuses on the theme: 20 year progress, but not enough! Act now to end Fistula by 2030.
